everyone's hyped about the "controversial" performances but nobody mentions how eurovision uses shock value to distract from the actual songwriting being mid, and honestly that strategy works on me too sometimes which is annoying

look, i watched eurovision last year and the spectacle is literally the point. sex appeal, string sections, pyrotechnics, staging-it's all part of what makes it unforgettable theater, not some shallow distraction from the music.

look eurovision's literally just about the spectacle and yeah the production value matters, viewership metrics prove people tune in for the drama and staging not the actual singing talent.

look, i watched both the semis and final last year. the spectacle actually matters and these production elements make or break whether people tune in at all.

Eurovision definitely needs those dramatic elements to stay relevant. The 2023 final pulled 182 million viewers partly because of exactly this kind of spectacle and visual storytelling.
