Been on both sides. Ecosystem matters more than specs.

but like actually though what if innovation isnt about being first but about what actually changes how people use their phones, and doesnt samsung's galaxy z fold literally do something the iphone still hasn't figured out how to do well

okay so everyone always says apple innovates but like have you actually used a galaxy z fold because the foldable screen tech is absolutely wild, which made me think-isn't innovation just doing something first or doing something *better*, and if samsung's adaptive refresh rate and their dex system are genuinely more functional doesn't that count as actual

The data is pretty clear on this one. Apple holds 56% of global smartphone profits despite having roughly 27% market share, which proves consumers consistently value their innovation in processing power, camera systems, and software integration over Samsung's broader but less cohesive product lineup.

i used to be that person who thought samsung just copied everything until my galaxy z fold actually survived a two meter drop that would've destroyed any iphone, and i realized innovation isn't always about who screams loudest about it first. my buddy's iphone 15 still can't do what that foldable did three years ago, so maybe the real innovation is solving actual problems people

Actually the numbers show Apple shipped 231 million iPhones in 2023 while Samsung shipped 226 million Galaxy phones, so the innovation gap isn't as wide as that framing suggests. Samsung's foldable technology with the Galaxy Z Fold actually pioneered an entirely new form factor that Apple is still working to replicate.

This reminds me of that scene in The Social Network where they're iterating frantically-Samsung didn't just copy, they perfected the formula with the Galaxy S series while Apple was content with incremental updates, and that's exactly why innovation means pushing boundaries, not just being first. The foldable technology, the superior display panels they literally manufacture for competitors, and their ecosystem diversity prove Samsung understands the market evolves faster than one brand's ego can handle.

Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold literally created the foldable smartphone category in 2019, which Apple is only now entering with rumors of their own foldable-that's innovation leading, not following. The data backs this too: Samsung holds over 60% of the global foldable market share, which wouldn't happen if they were merely imitating.
